Candelo is a town steeped in culture and tourism, with a real Medieval atmosphere that will touch your heart: the timeless Ricetto with its cobblestone "rue", surrounded by the powerful walls and the vigilant towers. Today, CANDELO is amongst the hundred most beautiful Medieval villages still standing in Italy.
Candelo also means nature; the incredible natural environment of the Baraggia, a place that reveals the mysteries of vanished strongholds and the charm of landscapes, which remind one of the boundless African Savannah.
For further information please visit the website of the
Municipality of Candelo.
Candelo is characterised by the famous "Ricetto" that dates back to the 14th century: a collective fortification built by the people of Candelo to protect and preserve its most precious assets: the products of the earth.
Nowadays the "Ricetto" offers exhibitions that are recognised at a national level:
- Candelo in flower (a biennial exhibition at the end of May),
- Music in May (an exhibition at the end of May)
- Vin'incontro, An appointment with wine (September-October).
The "Ricetto" is also the setting for other exhibitions:
- The historical torchlight procession during the carnival period
- The antiques and craft market on the first Sunday of every month.
The tourist office at the entrance to the Ricetto is open everyday and offers a safe-custody service, a book-shop, assistance, guided tours and video projections.
Just five minutes away from the "Arco di Rose" many sporting activities are available in the natural environment of the "Baraggia reserve", an ideal setting for the numerous stables that offer the chance to go horse-riding or walking or for a ride on a bicycle.
The Biella area, surrounded by the splendid mountains of the Biella Alpine Chain has beautiful sanctuaries in its territory (Oropa and Graglia).
Candelo is situated at the foot of the Biellese Pre-Alps that differ from all the other areas of the Alps owing to its excellent location, which allows one sweeping views over the entire Po plain from the one side and over
the Western and Central Alps from the other.
There are many
paths and trails through the Alps for trekking enthusiasts.
Just five minutes from Biella one can visit the Burcina, an immense park with many exotic plants set in an Alpine environment, with a spectacular view over the plain right up to the cities of Vercelli, Trino and beyond.
In the area one can visit the lakes of Viverone and Chiaverano (Sirio).
